Result 2023: Van Hall Larenstein University of applied sciences wins the SustainaBul!

For the twelfth year in a row, the youth organization Studenten voor Morgen investigated to what extent higher education institutions are actually sustainable. A total of 33 higher education institutions were assessed on the basis of their sustainability performance by more than 36 students from across the country. The institutions were assessed on various themes for the integration of sustainability within the categories of education, research and business operations. Behind Van Hall Larenstein, VU University Amsterdam took second place and Universiteit van Amsterdam was in the top three this year. VU University Amsterdam won the Best Practice prize this year with their CO2-assistent best practice. How does it work?

The SustainaBul assessment process takes place in two different rounds. In the first round, the questionnaire for each institution is completed by rankers (students) on the basis of information available online. The outcome of this first ranking and associated feedback will then be shared with the institutions, after which the higher education institutions will be given the opportunity to provide additional evidence for each question in order to improve their score. When the deadline for this has passed, the second round for the rankers will begin. In this round, the students will again look at the questionnaire. The additional evidence provided is included in this assessment. The final ranking will then be formed and announced during the Groene Peper (formerly National Day for Sustainability in Higher Education).
